City Scores Major Sports Tournament

Mayor Javier Joven and District 1 Rep Mark Matta work with local business leaders to secure major youth football tournament.

The “Battle for the Southwest” youth football tournament is headed to Odessa this June.  Organized by Odessan Chris Taylor, the tournament is expected to include up to 80 teams and to have a local economic impact of $960,000.

“It’s very exciting to bring this huge sports tournament to Odessa” said Councilman Matta.  “I would like to thank the Bushman Companies, The Chavez Law Firm, National Youth Sports, UTPB, and ECISD for working with us to bring all of the players and their families to our city.  This multi-year tournament will have a major impact on our kids, our schools, and our community.”

More details will be made available in the coming weeks.  One day at a time newly elected City Council members are keeping their promise to bring positive change to our city.
