CITY’S ACTIONS WOULD RESULT IN DEFUNDING SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT

Well, I’ll be damned! Those greedy goobers at City Council are going after the county’s 1-1/4 cent sales tax revenue. In about 1980 Judge Watkins gave the county tax revenue to the hospital and the county did without because of it. In 2018 the voters approved a 1-1/4% per dollar tax rate increase, which would bring in about 15 million per year. The money was to be used specifically to improve the areas in which it was collected and assisting the Sheriff’s Department in meeting their needs.   City Council is going after a substantial amount of this tax. Voters understood this money to be dedicated to the county and it should remain with the county.
