When the cities contract with UTPB ended on August 31, 2021 they left UTPB with millions of dollars worth of improvements. The contract ended on August 31, 2021. No new agreement was reached and the decision was made to use parks throughout the city for our kids instead of UTPB’s facility. City Council voted back in July, as per the contract with UTPB, that the improvements made over the years by different organizations such as Odessa Soccer Association, Softball and Baseball Teams were property of the city and allowed these organizations to remove structures, covers, field equipment and such items for the purpose of relocating it to new fields. It would stand to reason that UTPB, whose intentions is to maintain and rent out the fields, would be responsible for replacing the necessary equipment for them to rent the fields. Well, not so fast. City Council voted 6-1 tonight in favor of giving UTPB $280,000 to replace the very items that they voted to remove two months ago. Council-Woman Swanner opposed the idea.
